Joy Mukherjee
A Kumaoni morning blushes awake, its rain-washed roofs and misty hills whispering fresh secrets to the sun. There is a softness to mountain mornings that no other place quite replicates — the way the light arrives gently, without urgency, settling across the rooftops and the winding paths below like something remembered rather than seen for the first time. This painting tries to hold that feeling. Done in watercolor on paper, the colors are muted and layered, the brushwork loose enough to let the atmosphere breathe. The mist is not painted so much as allowed — the white of the paper doing the work where the pigment steps back. This painting was displayed at the Indian Art Carnival Season 7, Shantiniketan, December 2025.
